Your export file

The file you drop onto a converter is read by JavaScript running in your browser tab, transformed in memory, and returned to you as a download. It is never transmitted anywhere. Movepasswords has no server that could receive it — the site is static files on a CDN.

Nothing from the file is written to localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB or cookies. Closing the tab is enough to remove every trace of it from the browser. The temporary download link the converter creates is revoked when you leave the page.

You don't have to take this on faith. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and convert a file — you will see no requests. Or disconnect from the internet entirely before dropping the file in: the conversion still completes.

If you would rather not rely on any of that, use the offline version: one HTML file you download and open from your own disk, with no connection at all.

What this site collects

Nothing tied to your file, and nothing that identifies you. If page analytics are enabled, they record the URL of the page and referring site only — never file contents, file names, entry counts, or anything derived from what you converted.

Third parties

The converter pages load no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Links to password manager documentation are ordinary outbound links; following one is a visit to that company's site under their own privacy policy, not ours.

A caution that has nothing to do with us

Your export file is plaintext on your own disk, and that is the real risk in any migration. Anything with read access to your Downloads folder can read every password in it — including cloud sync clients, backup software, and any other application on the machine. Delete both files as soon as your import is verified, empty your trash, and confirm the deletion propagated if that folder syncs anywhere.
